  Casa dos Castelejos

Lesser Kestrel

A small falcon that lives in ruins or abandoned buildings, it was until recently on the verge of extinction. Today, however, it is an icon of the Alentejo plains.

This small bird of prey is migratory, spending the winter in Africa and in Pakistan. Despite being only 27 to 33cm big, it has a wingspan of up to 72 cm.

It is a small bird that distinguishes itself from the Common Kestrel, among other things, by the absence of black spots on its upper wings.
